Shelter Island Marina and Boatyard have an ‘Open Yard’ policy, something the competitors do not offer! Boat owners are welcome to work on their own vessels, bring their own subcontractor(s) or choose one of the 30 businesses on-site who operate at Shelter Island Marina and Boatyard. business directory
The boatyard is very well known among boaters in British Columbia, because two of the largest Travelifts on the Pacific Coast are at Shelter Island Marina and Boatyard (70 TON and 220 TON Travelifts) capable of lifting vessels up to 130 feet and 29 feet in width.
The boatyard is 20 acres of paved land with plenty of marked spots available to work on and to store your vessel. We can accommodate Pleasure Yachts and Commercial Vessels up to 130 feet in length and 29 feet in width.
Vessels are pressure washed in our Environmental Water Treatment Pit which was constructed in 2008. This system contains the contaminants from the hull of the vessel which helps keep the boat yard environmentally friendly. The water is recycled and the system collects the contaminants into holding tanks through a drainage system which is then hauled away for proper disposal.
Shelter island Marina and Boatyard also offers the Boat Recycle/Demolition service to customers. The recently launched boat recycling program at Shelter Island Marina has helped to gain us a 4 Anchor Eco Marina Rating with the Clean Marine BC program.
Customers requiring a covered area for your vessel, a limited number of sheds are available to rent, or you can also build your own non-permanent shelter pending pre-approval from the Office.
Need to remove items from your vessel for work to commence? Why not rent one of our 20-foot storage containers? For your convenience, they are located throughout the boatyard. Already have a container but need somewhere to put it? We can accommodate that too!

Boat Pressure Wash Station
Vessels Pressure Wash is available at Shelter Island Marina and Boatyard. Vessels are pressure washed in our Environmental Water Treatment Pit and our experienced staff are extremely professional when it comes to cleaning hulls.
This Environmental Water Treatment Pit system which was constructed in 2008 contains the contaminants from the hull of the vessel which helps keep the boat yard environmentally friendly. Clean Marine B.C. Program
Pressure washing vessels and Boat recycling/demolition at Shelter Island Marina is all part of our ongoing environmental practices, ensuring our 4 anchor eco marina rating with the Clean Marine B.C. program by The Georgia Strait Alliance.
Boat Recycling/Demolition
The recently launched boat recycling program at Shelter Island Marina has helped to gain us a 4 Anchor Eco Marina Rating with the Clean Marine BC program.
When boats are recycled, hazardous materials such as gasoline, diesel, heavy fuels, lubricating oils, battery acids and paints containing lead or copper are removed.
During the preparation process, our 4,000-litre tanks collect wastewater to be stored, treated and reused for various jobs such as pressure washing.
We're capable of hauling boats up to 130 feet and 220 tons into our yard to be wrecked for recycling.

We have sheds available for rent on a monthly, semi-annual or annual basis. Or, if these don’t fit your needs, with approval from Shelter Island Management, you can Build your own Shed!
